A Rocky Start

Monday, Jan 1, 0001

Description This book went on to receive numerous awards (incl. 2018 International Book Award winning finalist, and 2017 Purple Dragonfly Book Award winner) and high praise on the author’s Amazon storefront. I handled this project from start to finish, provided with just a .txt list of the words that the author wanted in them, and a general idea of the setting/character (brief description and a few reference photos). I began by plotting out the project timetables and requirements for a detailed quote, then secured a relationship with a print shop near the client (so he could walk in to see the Proof copy when ready).

Dreamscape Proposal

Monday, Jan 1, 0001

Description A rendition of a scene from a client’s dream; commissioned as a rush Christmas gift for the gentleman’s wife. My client described a vivid dream-made-reality 23 years ago when he took his then-girlfriend to St. Lucia to propose on a beach. He attempted to match it as closely as possible to what he envisioned that night, but the location has a large mountain in the distance, among other minor details which were beyond his control.

Mia and the Rocket Ship Tree

Monday, Jan 1, 0001

Description The author created a series of paintings prior to having decided to turn them into a children’s book; he reached out to me for consultation regarding his desire to modify his illustrations to be suitable for print. I was provided a Word document with the plain text beside each respective image they correlated with, which I used to layout the thumbnails which outlined what changes needed to be made to facilitate flow and chronological coherency.

OC Night Market and 626 Night Market

Monday, Jan 1, 0001

Description A series of food pixel art I did for OC Night Market and the 626 Night Market’s ad spots as well as their site reskins. Background The client’s events are videogame-themed this year, so I was commissioned to make pixel art based on actual items available at their events, with animated effects to use on .gif ads, then apply them across a range of files. Breakdown The work consisted of the following food items, under respective effect categories:

Octopus Sculpture

Monday, Jan 1, 0001

Description A gargantuan display commissioned for use in a traveling art exhibit. This piece is being used to spread awareness about the negative effects of oceanic garbage and man made debris on wildlife; the client wanted to have a “larger than life octopus huge enough to inspire awe and draw attention” which would hold an iPad in each limb so that visitors could watch an educational video. The sculpture needed to be easily dismantled into individual components which an average adult could handle with no more than a second adult, and with no tools, to assist in assembly, dismantlement, and relocation.

See Monkeys Prototype

Monday, Jan 1, 0001

Description This custom prototype is a fully functioning wifi-capable plush companion for kids to carry around as a surrogate for their parents when away from home (eg business trips, errands, vacation). While staying with a healthcare provider, the plush can be unplugged from the wall, and carried around by a child of any age; the internal components are encased in a protective shatter-proof shell and padded to prevent impact injuries during the rigors of play.

Shadoweyes Figurine

Monday, Jan 1, 0001

Description Miniature commemorating the publication of issue No. 1 of Ross/Sophie Campbell’s titular character. The aforementioned character had not yet been rendered in 3 dimensions, so I consulted with the author as to the specifications (see concept art sketches at top, provided as reference to me) to create an accurate representation of this character, true to design. The pose was to be dynamic and on-model/in-character, so a moderate amount of research was done to determine the gait and agility as well as the posture needed to convey an appropriate characterization.

We Crave Raves

Monday, Jan 1, 0001

Description Logo and mascots designed for an apparel company catering to fans of the Festival/EDM (Electric Dance music)/Rave scene. The logo and mascots needed to be deployed on a Facebook page as well as a Shopify website, and be reusable for future implementation on t-shirts, mugs, etc. of varying scale; as a result, I advised the client that a vector format would be best suited for future-proofing the work for any printing size.

[game] Phaedon the cursed (project Revenants Reach)

Monday, Jan 1, 0001

Description An unrelenting test of platforming skill; explore treacherous dungeons, battle intimidating foes, and precariously navigate the perilous grappling points and platforms spanning across dizzying chasms. Only the cursed can hope to make it out in one piece. Play it at PAX West 2019 before release! Visit the Homunkulus booth at PAX Rising (Expo Hall, Level 4, 1801). Development Process I wanted to make sure that I didn’t waste too much time on assets that would need to be completely retooled (or outright scrapped) after playtesting to make sure that they blend seamlessly within the state machine.
